Today we had a family meeting to discuss how Connor is doing. Last night at 1am I got a call from the NICU. Connor had another episode of desaturation (low oxygen) and had to be reintubated. The doctor thinks that he has some excess respiratory secretions, probably caused by an infection, that caused an obstruction and prevented him from breathing properly. As soon as he was intubated, he was able to be ventilated very easily. Since he recoveredso quickly and was doing so well, the doctor said she could have taken the tube back out and gone back onto CPAP but he might need to be intubated again tomorrow so we will just keep it in and start him on antibiotics. Since being reintubated they have been weaning his oxygen and were able to get it down to 32%. This is an improvement from yesterday from 51-54% and last night during his episode at 85%. Connor also had an arterial IV line placed in his left hand to monitor his blood pressure more closely. This means we won't be able to take him out for cuddles until the art line comes out. :(

Overall, the doctor is very pleased with Connor's progress and she was smiling during the whole meeting. She said she is not worried about his brain bleed, hernia or GI tract at the moment. She said he is further along than other babies at this gestational age and even more advanced for a twin at this gestational age. GO CONNOR!

The nurses have started giving them seasonal bedding and since he could wear a hat other than his CPAP hat now, they gave him a little knit hat. :)
