Our little Connor turned four weeks old today! Time flies! He now weighs 900 grams and doesn't fit into his extra small snuggies bedding and has been upgraded a size in both bedding and diapers. He was switched from the CPAP face prongs that he had yesterday to a better fitting CPAP face mask. His oxygen requirement was 40-74% today. This is a little higher than previously but they are not concerned with where it is at now.
He had a bit of a rough go this morning and seemed more tired than usual and was very angry after his handling by the nurse. His abdomen is distended again but he is producing lots of poop, his bowel sounds sound normal, and isn't gassy. Also, his blood did not show any signs of infection so these are all good signs. His belly diameter is being measured every few hours to keep an eye on its size and he may have an x-ray later today just to be safe. They are also going to keep his feeds going at 8ml per feed instead of increasing it to 9ml as discussed previously.
The doctor checked on his belly this morning and also checked on his hernia which is readily reducible, meaning the doctor could press on it and the loop of bowel would slide back into the abdomen. However, it pops back through the hernia into the scrotum easily so Connor will probably need surgery to fix it before he leaves the hospital.
I forgot to mention in the last few posts that we entered Connor into a research study. It is a double-blind study that looks at the effects of fortifying breast milk based on individual needs versus using a standardized formulation for all babies.

Happy 4 week birthday little man! Looks like you're getting stronger and bigger every day. xo Amy
